So for the first time, I decided to actually show a quick mix of how I deejay and my style on the APC40. I dont know that I have ever seen anyone else play the way I play (house, electro, hip-hop, dubstep, pop all at the same time using Ableton Live and the APC40), so it is sort of intimidating to put this out, but I figured it is time. There will be lots of comments about how button pushing isnt deejaying, but I beg to differ. My sets since using Ableton Live and the APC 40 have become 100 times more unique and creative on the fly than I ever couldve been or wouldve been with turntables. With turntables, there are so many limitations and with Ableton live your only limitation is your mind.
Would I suggest this route for someone who has used a turntable their whole career? Not necessarily. It took me months and months to figure out how I wanted to use Ableton. It took even more time to import songs that I could play. And I still change my setup regularly to make it more conducive to how I play. All in all, I played with this thing for almost a year before I felt fully comfortable and could go to clubs knowing that I wouldnt accidentally just turn something off and not know why sound wasn’t coming out.
All that might just be me afraid that people are going to copy me, but I truly do believe if I had to start from scratch, I would just get a USB stick and a CDJ. But boy am I glad I dont have to start over because what I have created is a MONSTER! Or so I think. And so do a lot of other people who comment after seeing me deejay with it. Check this out and be sure to comment below.
